This past weekend I had the amazing opportunity to document Grant's and Sean's wedding. This was the second time this year that I have been able to document a same sex marriage. Each time opening my eyes more to how people of different genders and sexual orientations live.
This past Saturday, I had the chance to reunite with one of my favorite couples...last October I photographed Donald and Michele Sparks wedding at the University of Maryland and now I got the chance to celebrate their one year anniversary with by taking them around the inner harbor of Annapolis.
Being a photojournalism/artistic style wedding photographer...I am finding myself blessed being matched with young energetic couples. Couples that love to get out on the dance floor and bust some moves..these are my people..lol. This past weekend, I had the privilege to photograph Sara and Garrett's wedding. Both were alive with energy and easy to work with. With Sara playing DJ...deep into the reception I heard the bagpipes coming from the speaker. Could it be...oh yes it was..the Dropkick Murphy version of Amazing Grace!!!!
This weekend I had the amazing opportunity to photographed Aaron Warren and Cicely wedding on the grounds of the Commandant of the Marine Corps quarters at the 8th and I barracks in Washington DC. I later found out that this was a once in a lifetime event, as the couple has to have a very personal and strong connection to the commandant to be allowed to have their ceremony take place on the grounds. The father of the bride is the current Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. A man I have been able to meet before when I was photographer at the Quantico Sentry and photographed his changed of command(a ceremony symbolizing someone gaining a new position) back in the spring of 2007 when he took on his current position.
March 9, 2010 was a groundbreaking day in the cities history. It was the first day that the District of Columbia allowed for same sex marriages. On May 29, 2010, I had the amazing opportunity to witness two people come together in front of their families, in front of God and in front of a Catholic Priest to express the deep love they had for each other. Theresa and Ellen showed me what true love is about, and help me change my religious views what marriage between two people really means.
This May has been a crazy start to the wedding season..with a wedding each weekend. These images are from two wedding that I shot over the last two weekends.
